The speech program of Calvary Baptist School is designed to teach students basic public speaking skills as well as introduce them to dramatic arts. The emphasis of the first semester is learning public speaking techniques as well as giving prepared speeches such as informative, persuasive, and demonstration speeches. Throughout the course, students learn to become respectful, discerning listeners as well. The emphasis of the second semester is an introduction to performance arts. Students deliver memorized speeches such as poems and readings and also perform in group projects such as duet acting and simulated radio programs. Students will also be given opportunities to participate in readings during various school concerts such as the Christmas program and the annual Spring Concert.
